This Voter Guide Slate of candidates is the best hope for our Township Locally and at every level of our government to protect your individual rights and to fight the inflation brought on by government spending. For security and peace in our township and country vote Republican!
When Elected as Trustee with the other Republican candidates, we will work together and be accountable for all expenditures through total transparency of all Township financials.
My focus when elected will be 3 main issues.
-
- Create Transparency in the Revenue and Expenses of the Township.
- Lower Taxes by cutting unneeded expenses while increasing required services.
- Fix the roads by creating a long-term side street repair-replacement program with saved tax dollars and lower taxpayer contributions. When I get the cooperation from the newly elected Republican Waterford township supervisor and trustees, We can make this happen!
Create Transparency in Township budgets and Expenses.
- Work with Steve Thomas the Treasurer and other Township Department Budget administrators to create actual real-time Excel Ledgers of Revenue Funds that come into the township from every source, and all expenses that get paid out. Financial Link posted on the Waterford TWP web site where all financial information can be easily found without searching multiple areas.
- Create Department Excel ledgers of every expense that are paid by the Township, by department. This will allow Waterford TWP. resident tax payers, property owners and business owners, to know where their tax dollars are going.
- Department Excel Ledgers should be transaction detailed with an overview of total dollars in and total dollars out.
- Pension Excel Ledgers for every pension and fund held by the township, with full accounting, easily accessible with links under a financial page on the township web site.
- Legacy Debt Excel Ledger of all our ongoing tax payer obligations including Bond Issues and Millages that are easy to read.
- All ledgers should be linked to a master sheet. All information should be easy to read and in real dollars. Taxpayer citizens need clear information to determine their portion of the Tax bill.
- Current Tax Rate analysis Excel Spread sheet where you can enter your address or taxable value to determine what your tax bill will be with current liabilities
- Proposed Millage and Bond issues on the ballot analysis Excel Spread sheet where you can enter your address or taxable value to determine how much more a yes vote will cost you on millages and bonds that are passed with the amount of years you will pay with added inflation rate estimates.
- Voting Yes or No on Millages and Bonds. It’s hard for the common tax payer to get their head around how our government works and how much it spends. Waterford Government needs to make it easy to understand so that tax payers can make educated decisions when they vote yes or no on millage and bond issues! We need to know the real cost when the ask for more money from government comes up on the ballot! Those yes votes for bonds and millages, as nice as they are worded on the ballot, will increase the tax burden for many years into the future. Also, all millage and bond issues should Ideally be on primary or general election ballots, so that we don’t have to pay for special elections. Preferably they should be on general elections when most people vote, and so that all the citizens that vote will be able to weigh in on increasing their tax burden, or not! Special elections are not seen by most citizens, don’t get the same voter turnout, and should not be conducted in that manner, to be fair to all tax paying citizens.
Lower Taxes for everyone!
- Analyze all expenditures! Cut waste and unneeded spending! Change the big Government mentality of constantly increasing budgets and always making sure that allotted budgets are spent on something so that they have the money in the budget next year! Stop repeating this overspending cycle perpetually.
- We must change the Waterford Twp big spending mentality, as it is unsustainable increased costs to the taxpayers! The Best chance we have is with the Republican Ticket and me Sam Harris to be there with them asking do we need that or want that?
- Let’s curb spending and then potentially lower taxes or stop increasing taxes to the maximum allowed by law every year!
- I am a 25-year resident of Waterford Twp. I enjoy living in the community. I do not enjoy perpetually increasing taxes. I would like to retire in the community and house I live in now IF I can afford the taxes. I have worked hard my whole life and currently run two businesses. I am not a politician. I would like to get elected, change the mentality of the local government, and then get back out of government after one term if I can get the job done and someone will step up and continue my work. That is the plan now, after 4 years hand the torch on to another who will do the same as the next Waterford Twp Trustee. Please elect me as a Trustee and I will work on the taxation issue and attempt to bring the change needed to Waterford. I’ve been making payroll for my employees and paying taxes for the privilege for 31 years successfully. I’ve been a Glazing Contractor for 35 years now at Commercial Glass. Realtor Broker now at Easy Real Estate for 23 years making budgets and paying bills. I’ve been a Delegate since 2020 in District 9 Waterford. Trust me to go into our local government and work for you and attempt to lower your taxes! If it does not benefit the entire community of Waterford then we should not pay for it. If it is something that the private sector should do, then Waterford Taxpayers should not pay for it.
Increase Services
Increase services with the funds saved. When you call 911 you want the best and you will get the best Police, Fire, EMT or required Waterford government department to show up! That is expected and that is what I will support 100%! We need the Waterford Municipal services to support our community. The Water department for our sanitation and fresh water! When we analyze our revenue and expenses, I think we will have plenty of money to maintain and increase Required Public Health and Safety services. Back the Police and Fire departments! Everything else is up for discussion openly in the community.
Fix the Roads!
We need the residential streets of Waterford fixed with a long-term program. I will attempt to work with all in Waterford Twp Gov and Oakland County to utilize the processes that are in place for funding residential road repairs and attempt to find ways and new processes to get the roads fixed. What we have now is not working to fix our residential roads. Right now, the Township is not focused on a roads program. I’ve been told it is not the sole Township responsibility which is partially correct. Every system, policy and the way Township government works we have now, was put into place at one time. That does not mean we have to keep going down that road without change. It is time for change now. We need to think about how we get funds for all residents to fix our side streets as a priority over any new parks and recreation site purchase, or any other purchase. We need to see how we can do that with a minimal cost to individual tax payers to get their roads fixed. And if we can’t do it that way, we need to cut spending on everything else so that we taxpayers can afford to fix our own roads! We need to change the way things are done. We have constantly increased taxes annually, and I think everyone in the township will agree that we have a major problem with our deteriorating side streets. Elect me and my focus will be lowering taxes and fixing roads before spending on wish list projects.
Millages and Bonds
I want all details for millages and bonds posted so voters can see the finical impacts and exactly what the requested funds are for in vivid details. If we Need it in the community and it benefits all, I would maybe vote yes if we can afford it as a community and as tax payers depending on current economic situations. If it is a want and not affordable, my personal vote would be no. Those decisions should be made by the taxpayer after they have all the real detailed information of what is being proposed and what the personal exact financial tax burden will be to them!
SAM HARRIS
During the Election, I will ask all running for Waterford Supervisor – 4 Trustee seats- Treasurer and Clerk to Work with me when Elected to Accomplish the Following :

Please Look at your tax bill increases for the last 3 years and think about the next 4 years of tax increases coming with the current spending habits of the supervisor and current board of Trustees!
At Current Waterford TWP. spending patterns; taxes will probably be increased to the maximum allowed Per the 1978 Headlee Amendment!
https://www.milibraries.org/assets/docs/Understanding-Headlee-Webinar-Handout.pdf
Market value increases or inflation of up to 5% compounded annually!
